That Thing Called Tadhana

"Where do broken hearts go nga ba talaga, tita Whitney?
Roma?  Manila?  Baguio?  Sagada?"
“Para sa mga umibig, nasaktan, ngunit umibig pa rin. You know, tatanga-tanga.”

The movie was labeled as the ultimate "hugot" movie.

Though I wanted to watch it because the trailer was interesting enough, not to mention that a lot of people were raving about it, when my friend invited me to watch this movie, first thing that came to mind was if I would be able to relate to this movie, and if not, would I be able to appreciate it?

The answer is YES.

Here's how I was able to appreciate and relate to this movie :)

Anthony:  "Bakit ba kayong mga mapeperang mga babae, ang hilig n'yong hinahanap ang sarili n'yo sa Baguio?  Ba't ba Baguio?  Hindi ba pwedeng sa inuman na lng?"

The moment we heard this line, my friend and I laughed.  That's because I recently mentioned to her that I was planning to go to Baguio alone (lol).
I admit that the plan came to mind on one of those sleepless nights when my mind just can't shut up.  It may also be one of those nights when I just feel sentimental.
But is it about finding myself?  Hmmm, maybe it's part of it.  But it was really about trying to travel alone.   I've always admired people, specially women, who can travel alone.

"Ba't ba Baguio?" - bakit nga ba?  I think Baguio is the most convenient destination.  I don't have to drive and can just ride a bus from Manila going straight to Baguio, hassle free.  Getting an accommodation is not a problem.  You don't even have to plan an itinerary.  Not to mention that it's a romantic city? (hehehe)  Maybe that's why it has to be Baguio whether you're heart broken or not.  Besides, I don't really drink (except for rare social drinking). :)

Anthony:  "Sabi mo nga, bakit mo ipapaubaya sa hangin, sa tadhana, sa isang bagay na hindi mo nkikita?"

There were times that I have asked this myself.  When I wanted to do something to change my situation and to get what I want.  But there were also times that I have let myself believe in fate and destiny.  That everything will happen in God's perfect timing. :)

Mace:  "Mabagal.  Mabigat.  Pero kaya."

The line was actually from a seem to be irrelevant scene when Anthony offered to help Mace to carry her luggages while climbing the stairs of an overpass.  Mace refused Anthony's help and insisted on carrying her own luggages and said this line.  Of course, it's a metaphor for getting over a broken heart.  Mabagal. Mabigat.  Pero kaya.

I may not be broken hearted to relate to this but I have my own heart breaks too.  Yes, it felt the same.  Mabagal.  Mabigat.  That heavy feeling of getting stuck in a bad situation and can't move on.  Pero kaya.  Because life goes on and I just have to make the most out of it. :)

Mace:  "Mabigat talaga ‘yan, kasi dala ko ‘yung buong buhay ko dito kaya pasensya ka na ha."

On having excess baggage.  Literally, I really have to start sorting my old clothes and things and start that ukay ukay (lol).  On a deeper note, it is simply about letting go.

Lastly, the best part about watching this movie is that it will give new hope and inspiration to all the hopeless romantics.  Am I one of them? Hmmmm... :)

This is the famous quote mentioned several times in the movie :)
